What is an ENT specialist?

An ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist is a physician
ear painwho is trained in the
medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, as well as other related structures of the neck and head. They also have special expertise in managing the diseases which tends to occur in the ears, nose and nasal passage sinuses, oral cavity and upper pharynx (mouth and throat), the voice box (larynx), as well as structures of the face and neck.

The ear

The unique domain of the ear; nose and throat specialist is treatment of ear disorders. This includes medical and surgical treatment for hearing disorders, ear infections, balance disorders, facial nerve or cranial nerve disorders, as well as management of congenital (birth) and cancerous disorders of the outer and inner ear,

The nose

One of the primary skills of an ear nose and throat doctor is care of the nasal cavity and sinuses. In addition, and ENT’s area of expertise also includes management of the disorders of paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity, sense of smell, allergies, nasal respiration (which means breathing). It also includes the external appearance of the nose. This is because in a lot of cases of cosmetic surgery, ENTs are appointed to provide recommendations about the surgery.

The throat

The specialty of the ent also includes the management of the diseases of the larynx (which is the voice box) and the upper aero-digestive tract or esophagus. It also includes disorders of the voice respiration (in other words breathing) and difficulties in swallowing. This could happen for a variety of reasons, some of which could not be easily determined if not consulting a visit to an ENT specialist.

The head and neck

In the head and neck area, an ENT specialist is trained to treat tumors (both benign and cancerous), infectious diseases, facial trauma, and other deformities which happen on the face. ENT specialists have been known to conduct both constructive and cosmetic plastic surgery.

This doctor may work with a team of other qualified doctors and specialists in other medical and surgical areas. A common ground is shared when treating skull base disorders, allergy in managing sinus disease, as well as disorders in the general and pediatric fields.
